About
Hi, I'm Shierly Halim.
About Me
I am Shierly Halim, a registered counsellor and psychotherapist offering both in-person and online sessions for adults and young adults. I have years of experience working with individuals across clinical, school, and community settings, both in Australia and Indonesia, supporting people through a range of emotional, relational, and life challenges.
Growing up in a culture where talking about personal struggles was a sign of weakness and asking for help was often met with shame and judgment, I learned that keeping things to myself was the safest choice. I experienced firsthand how isolating it was and how much courage it takes to finally reach out.
I understand how difficult it can feel to sit with someone you've never met and begin talking about the parts of your life that feel difficult or uncertain. That's why I care deeply about creating a space where you can be honest about what you are going through — without fear of being judged, dismissed, pressured, or expected to have everything figured out. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can simply show up as you are.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your individual needs, creating a space where you can understand yourself, work through life's challenges, and move towards meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
Professional Experience
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals from different backgrounds, life stages, and presenting concerns across clinical, community, and educational settings.
My experience includes providing individual counselling in both in-person and online settings, supporting clients through a range of emotional, relational, and behavioural challenges, including:
- Relationship difficulties — romantic, family, and friendships
- Family-related concerns, past relational wounds, and childhood trauma
- Anxiety, stress, and depression
- Emotional regulation difficulties, including anger and lingering emotional distress
- Self-worth and confidence concerns
- Procrastination, self-sabotaging patterns, and unhelpful coping behaviours
Alongside my professional work, I have been involved in volunteer initiatives with organisations including Lifeline, Beyond Blue, Cancer Council, Tzu Chi Foundation, and Sacred Heart Mission. These experiences have allowed me to contribute to the local community and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life circumstances, broadening my understanding of the different ways people experience hardship, resilience, and human connection.
